More than 3,000 people have fallen ill in northwest China after bacteria leaked from a biopharmaceutical plant that made vaccines for animals. The event dates back to 2019 but local health authorities only published a report on the matter last Tuesday. The news, picked up by the Chinese media, was later relaunched by CNN.
The disease in question is brucellosis., transmitted by livestock or animal products. It is generally not contagious in humans, but can cause fever, joint pain, and headache. A total of 3,245 people tested positive for the bacteria, said health authorities in Lanzhou, the capital of Gansu province. And no cases of person-to-person transmission have been observed.

All born of the laboratory use of an expired disinfectant in July-August 2019. sterilization was incomplete and bacteria remained present in gas emissions, which then spread to the air, to the nearby Veterinary Research Institute last December. Subsequently, the laboratory apologized and the authorization to produce brucellosis vaccines was withdrawn. Patients will receive compensation.
