ANCONA – The COVID-19 it sneaks between the banks (single-seater) and arrives punctually like the sound of the bell. It is time to go back to school and the first positive case is already there: it is a fifth grader of high school Savoy-Benincasa. Now an entire class is in quarantine: 24 students plus 4 teachers whose lessons the child who contracted the Coronavirus also attended.

He is fine, asymptomatic and did not have a fever when his temperature was taken with the thermo-scanner in the hallway of the school. Even the classmates and teachers did not present any health problems, so, however, home isolation was triggered. Everyone will have to undergo the swab to see if they have been infected. According to the Asur Prevention Department, last Monday the boy presented himself to school for the resumption of lessons, despite his close contact, that same day, he would have had to undergo hyssop because he had manifested symptoms attributable to the virus, such as loss . of taste and smell. That same night, the school was notified of the positivity of the student’s relative who, the following day, underwent the oropharyngeal test. It also tested positive. It became known on Wednesday, when the city’s schools were already closed due to the emergency of the fire in the port. At that moment the security protocol was triggered: the Asur carried out an epidemiological investigation based on the information provided by the director and, the only body authorized to do so, contacted the child’s classmates and the teachers who had relationships with him, by imposing home isolation for all for 14 days. The measure was not extended to the rest of the classes because there would be no possible contamination situations: the students, in fact, spent the two intervals either in their class or outdoors, always respecting the rules (mask and distances).
It is the first stop of Covid in the schools of Ancona. “And it’s just a taste of next year,” he comments bitterly. Alessandra rucci, responsible for Savoia-Benincasa, attended by more than 1500 young people. “I confirm that, following the advice of the Asur, we had to quarantine an entire class and 4 teachers. Fortunately, children always wore masks during lessons, in fact, I don’t expect others to get infected. The damage is not only for those who will be forced to lock themselves at home, but also for the other classes that will have to do without isolated teachers. That is why I reiterate that the responsibility of the individual is fundamental: I hope this experience makes the children understand that Covid exists, it has not disappeared and that their behavior even outside of school affects the community. In so many years of work this is the most difficult moment I have to face: luckily our school is well organized ».
And in fact, the students who will spend 14 days at home will not lose their lessons: they will be followed with distance education, the same that the Savoy-Benincasa has imposed for today and tomorrow by choice of the director, concerned about the consequences of the fire in the port, although the City Council has opted for the reopening of schools.
