The special group of scooters of the Milan traffic police was born in June, when the phenomenon of electric scooters exploded in the city. To date there are almost six thousand, considering only those who share. Even the Local Police, therefore, move with this particular means of transport, raise fines (353 in less than three months), but above all they try to provide information and a useful example on how to use this new means of transport. “The scooter is an ecological, light and practical means – declares the commissioner Francesco Blanda, head of the experimental team of scooter officers – but it must be used with caution, like any other means of transport”. Children are among the main users of the new sharing services. “The use of this special vehicle among young people has increased – adds Blanda – because it is easy to use and it is a lot of fun. However, children often ignore the rules that must be followed. For example, the use of a protective helmet is mandatory for minors. And it’s actually highly recommended for adults too. ‘ The local police are mainly committed to disseminating a safety manual: “The first question they ask us is: can we use the bike lanes? The answer is absolutely yes. – concludes Blanda – From this point of view, the law equates scooters with bicycles. Therefore, if there is a bike path, it is mandatory to use it first. You cannot go to the sidewalk and must get out of the vehicle at crosswalks. Then there is the question of speed: it is advisable to reduce it significantly on uneven floors, there you run the greatest risks.
