As of October 1, 2020, INPS will no longer release Pins as access credentials for its services. The Pin will be replaced by Spid, the Public Digital Identity System that allows access to online services of the public administration and is also necessary to access some incentives implemented by the government for the Covid emergency such as the bicycle voucher, for example. .
Transitory phase
For those who currently use the Pin, the transition to the Spid will take place gradually: in accordance with the instructions provided by the Inps circular of July 17, 2020, n. 87, a transitory phase is foreseen that will end with the definitive termination of the validity of the Pins issued by the Institute.
This means that new Pins will not be issued to users, while those already issued will remain valid and can be renewed after their natural expiration until the end of the transition phase.
A single code that works throughout the EU
This change reinforces the simplification of relations between citizens and public administration at European level. In fact, according to the eIDAS Regulation, the Spid digital identity (with level 2 or 3 credentials) can be used to access the network services of the European Union AP.
Who does the device Pin stay for?
The Device Pin will be kept for users who are unable to access Spid credentials, such as children under the age of eighteen, people who do not have Italian identity documents, or people subject to protection, guardianship or support administration, and for only services dedicated to them. Therefore, all other users must be equipped with alternative authentication credentials to the Pin that are currently Spid, but also with Electronic Identity Card (CIE) and National Service Card (CNS).
