In three months, the inspectors seized several hundred non-compliant pieces and fined the merchants, in some cases even proceeding with the reports to the judicial authorities on the criminal aspects.

“The Covid emergency had, among others, the consequence of literally flooding the market with products of various types and origins, intended to protect against the virus,” says Giacomo De Stefani, Secretary General of the Chamber of Commerce. Unfortunately, these are not always safe products that comply with the relevant regulations, including those adopted in an emergency as an exception to ordinary procedures. For the most part these are products from abroad, especially from China, which has industries capable of producing millions of pieces in a few days, and to a lesser extent from Italy where, in any case, large groups such as Luxottica are being organized.

In any case, the Ccia’s interventions were minimally repressive, aiming above all at information: “Many pharmacies, drug stores, and general stores suddenly found themselves selling products that customers weren’t used to buying. because for our culture we do not wear masks, unlike, for example, the Japanese who, beyond Covid, tend to wear masks even if they only have a cold – explains Mario Feltrin, head of the legal office of the Chamber of Commerce. and market regulation -.
