Children on their knees to attend classes because single-seater desks arrive late and old people do not guarantee social distancing. It is the discomfort that more than 700 students from the Rita Levi Montalcini comprehensive institute in Rome are experiencing
Children sitting on their knees on the floor and chairs as desks. They seem like scenes of a punishment, while it is reality since the banks are missing. This is how children and young people have to follow the lessons from the Rita Levi Montalcini comprehensive institute in Rome which includes elementary and high school. A problem that we anticipated a few days ago here on Iene.it (read the article).
Today those words have a picture with the photos that we show you exclusively above. All the blame the delay of single-seater banks which from this school year are necessary to maintain social distancing and prevent Covid-19 infections. As far as we know, the school would have ordered the desks by removing the two-seaters that were used until February. But after 7 months of closure, on Monday the first bell rang, and in the classrooms the students only found the chairs.
“Children are forced to sit in the chair or kneel on the floor and use the chair as a bench ”, explain some parents who contacted Iene.it. “An unacceptable situation that runs the risk of lasting at least until November.” In classrooms it is not possible to reposition the old two-seater tables because they would no longer guarantee social distancing among the students. Some of these have been placed in the hallways where students can safely lean on rotating to write or draw. “Then they have to go back to class where there are no desks,” explain the parents. “Has anyone ever wondered if this situation will cause problems in the posture of our children?”.
A a situation that would not seem unique in the country: in recent days the image of some students from a school in Genoa has become viral, they too are forced to use chairs as benches to kneel on the floor. The principal of the school has defined the “naivety” of the teacher when circulating the photo. The posts arrived the next day, but the problem of delays in the delivery of counters stay.
