Joint. Officially. Before the law, conscience and society. Joint, finally, also with respect to the possibility (hopefully remote) of a new emergency shutdown, like the one that in March and April, with its strict rules, did not always recognize their union, although consolidated by time and long coexistence.

For this reason, while throughout Italy weddings continue to be postponed due to the current Covid-19 emergency, Lucía and Dorella, against the current, have decided to tighten the times and anticipate their wedding: a leap forward, from October 10 to October 28 August, to formalize an 8-year union. The ceremony was held in Lecce, where they both live: Lucia, 41, from Foggia, an administrative employee, moved to the city of Salento for love and there she found her dimension; Dorella, 46, a nurse, educator and expert in training processes, already lived there for work reasons.

That work that sees her every day in the wards and rooms of a health center, therefore exposed to the risk of contagion every day. All the unknowns and uncertainties that led the two women to anticipate the big step. Her ‘yes’ was uttered with a joyful heart, in front of close family and friends (in compliance with anti-Covid regulations). To celebrate their union, a small rainbow community shouted: “You did it!”, summarizing in that short sentence an experience and a path of difficulty, courage and awareness.

Their story, Lucia and Dorella say, began on January 6, 2012. And they both believed in it, firmly, from the beginning. To the point that Lucia, weapons and luggage, lowered Lecce, surprising everyone. But her path has not always been easy: “Dorella’s path was difficult – Lucia explains to Foggia todaybecause he had to overcome the mental closure of a small town, the last one in Puglia, and the skepticism of friends and family “. However, Lucia’s is different: “Being ‘escaped’ from Foggia has strengthened my character. After a period in Turin, the road was all downhill “he explains. “I faced my path with serenity and conscience.”

The ring on the finger and the signature on the register mark, for them, a change of life and state important. “A cultural passage that had to be celebrated”they explain. “Having the courage to be yourself, with your sexual orientations and assert your rights should be a right in itself. We should all have this courage “they affirm. And although the daily and work routine has resumed to mark the times and days as always, they summarize that day that, without seemingly revolutionizing anything, in fact everything has changed: “It is the realization of a dream. The desire to place a legally initiating signature on a family constitution. A faith in the finger that strengthens the feelings of the heart ”. They did it.
