Shortly after midnight, at 0.35 am, the great fire broke out that affected the central area of the port of Ancona: according to firefighters it is already under control, but small outbreaks are still active. As it was known, the flames erupted from the warehouse of the old Tubimar, in the Darsena Marche, which since 2019 has become a warehouse for paints, solvents and fiberglass, substances that could be toxic; this morning is now reduced to a heap of blackened rubble. This warehouse was supposedly converted into a health border control post, with a project presented last July by the Port System Authority.

The fire quickly spread to other warehouses, touching a methane deposit and a fish freezing plant, where some workers worked who managed to save themselves; at least one ship owned by Claudia Rossi would have been destroyed. The flames caused the explosion of some cylinders, most probably of acetylene, that shook the center of Ancona during the night.

The firefighters intervened at the scene and immediately requested reinforcements, arriving from the airport garrison and from Pesaro and Macerata; 12 teams worked all night and around 3 had already contained the flames. Regional civil protection and 118 rescuers were also mobilized, while the carabinieri and the police isolated the entire area.

The column of smoke has spread to the equipped axis, the road that runs from the port through the different districts of Ancona, until it reaches the Conero: this morning you can smell the acrid smell to the municipalities of Sirolo and Numana and Sirolo. Arpam has carried out surveys to establish air quality, the results of which will be released as soon as possible, but meanwhile the mayor of Ancona, Valeria Mancinelli, has ordered the preventive closure of schools of all types and grades, of all activities outdoors and advised citizens to keep doors and windows closed and limit movement.
