A 51-year-old priest, Don Roberto Malgesini, well known in Como for his commitment to the marginalized, was stabbed to death on Tuesday morning shortly after 7 a.m. in Piazza San Rocco, not far from the parish. The alleged perpetrator, a foreigner, appeared at the police station around 8 in the morning and was incorporated. From the first information, the murderer would be a homeless man with mental disorders, even if the investigation is still in the initial stages.

Don Roberto, originally from the province of Sondrio, was reportedly shot in the back, while walking down the uphill road leading to the nearby church. Some passersby who noticed the body on the ground called for help, but unfortunately there was nothing to do. The policemen, who intervened in Piazza San Rocco, found a knife, most likely the murder weapon.

Don Roberto Malgesini had long been at the forefront of assisting the homeless, foreigners and marginalized people.. Known in the social volunteering sector, he actively collaborated with the associations that deal with the hospitality industry. He was the coordinator of a group of Como volunteers who bring breakfast to the homeless and migrants every day, and assisted in all marginalized situations. He was not the owner of a parish, since his pastoral care was that of assisting the needy. He lived in the parish of San Rocco, a few steps from where he was stabbed.
