There are very few hours left for the reopening of schools.
There are still many problems to be solved, but tomorrow morning, one way or another, more than half a million teachers will return to class even though everything is not perfectly in place yet.
And there are also those who, especially in recent days, still add a new theme, as they did. Dario Missaglia with an article published on the site Proteo Fare Sapere, association of which he is president.
We interview him precisely to find out his point of view.
His article is entitled “Give a pedagogical sense to restart in schools”; What does that mean? What does pedagogy have to do with security measures, with spaces, desks, gels and masks?
I think it is absolutely necessary to overcome a vision of Covid only for health. There is also more, we must go beyond the environment in which we have lived in recent months, an environment made of rigor and precautions.
Obviously, all these are very important measures because health and safety are in any case the fundamental condition of any work, school or social activity.
This vision, however, over the weeks and months, has ended up hiding somewhat the effects that this epidemic situation has produced on people and on the system of relationships between people and children and young people in particular.
Why should we pay special attention to the little ones?
Be good “? Or are there deeper reasons?
Older children have greater autonomy, they have the ability to find solutions; For the little ones, everything changes, and then it must be taken into account that it is also the period in which cognitive and emotional relational skills are most developed.
Living in a deprived condition of so many of these dimensions can have very serious effects. And it seems to me that this problem has been greatly underestimated.
But, how is it that in this period few have spoken of the importance of the “pedagogical gaze”?
I believe that there is also a political responsibility of the Administration. This is a momentous event, we are going through a crisis phase in the educational system; Suffice it to underline one fact: in our country the school did not close even during the two world wars.
We have witnessed and are witnessing an unprecedented event.
Let’s go back to pedagogy: what role should it have in this phase?
Pedagogy makes sense when it helps to give an idea of the future, an idea of change, a redefinition of meaning.
Young people felt this need, then the pandemic stifled their movement in favor of the planet and for a new relationship between man and nature. Pedagogy is exactly this: returning an idea of the future to the school.
Until now the “pedagogical question” has taken a back seat, but you are convinced that it will soon become the topic of the day.
Why?
I understand that on the eve of the possible reopening of the school technical problems arise (masks, desks, chairs, distances, signs, entrances, exits, temperature), all certainly very important; But when they arrive at school, which are the children and young people, all these problems will go to the background because at that point the issue will become another: and now, what do we say, what do we do, how do we rebuild our relationships?
Do you have any idea about it?
I am working on a kind of pedagogical protocol that arises from friendly conversations with other people, Raffaele Iosa above all [VAI AL VIDEO]; and soon we will announce our work.
We use the term protocol in a somewhat provocative way: in the last few months, we have seen many protocols, but all of them of a sanitary and organizational nature.
The protocols are useful because they also serve to give people who work in the field a certain security, a certain confidence, they are a way of saying: “Know that you have to do some things.”
In short, the protocol is a repertoire of virtuous behaviors that serve to make certain actions effective.
And how will your protocol work?
We want our proposal to serve as a motor to make concrete experiences a reality that we will try to spread and transmit.
I think it’s about reading, observing and documenting what will happen from September 14th.
Obviously I am not talking about formalized documentation, I am thinking above all of reports and stories in the form of a blog, stories that perhaps start from a problem and a working hypothesis to describe the results.
