For Ferrari, another weekend to forget about this 2020 Formula 1 season, so atypical, but also so disappointing for the Prancing Horse.
At the end of the Ferrari 1000 Tuscan Grand Prix, Mattia Binotto came to Sky Sport to comment on the race in which Charles Leclerc finished in eighth place and Sebastian Vettel in tenth, after another difficult race.
Binotto, Leclerc said something must be done to improve Ferrari’s current situation. How do you respond?
“Leclerc says something has to be done and he is right. We are not happy with the races, we are all very disappointed, of course we have not had race pace today. Charles did a good lap in qualifying yesterday, but after a few laps we lose the beat. ” we are missing a step and the result is the consequence ”.
What explanations did you give for the problems the SF1000 is facing today?
“We have no technical explanations at the moment. We have an obvious deterioration of the tires, I think it lies in the difficulty of this project from which it is not obvious to get out of it. Making a few new additions, additions, etc., does not improve the situation. Deeper base where we have to get out of it at least between now and the end of the season and progress.
Leclerc also said that some news is coming soon …
“We will also see some small news from the next race, but it will not be things that will make a difference. When someone has a problem like our car, it takes more time to take that necessary step back, which is necessary to reposition and then take steps forward. We are working hard, hard at home and in the wind tunnel to correct the basic mistakes of this car also for next year. Small appendices can also be seen from the next race, but they will not be in those that we can count as expectations of redemption. “
Why is Ferrari so late to bring updates, while rivals have managed to make so much progress in recent races?
“I think the situation of the rivals is different from ours. They have brought little news as we did at the beginning of the season and how we will do it again but, I repeat, our problem is more basic and we need more time on that.”
What were the good things about this weekend? Are you satisfied with what the drivers have achieved?
“Certainly, the positive note was Charles’s return in qualifying. Today they did the best they could, but they ran into difficulties that I told them a while ago. They are also part of the team. We have to go out together.”
