The expansive trend of Covid contagion in Italy slows down: two days after the start of the school year, the new cases registered in the daily bulletin of the Ministry of Health and Civil Protection are 1,501, 115 less than the 1,616 detected yesterday. In the last 24 hours, six new deaths have also been registered (four less than yesterday’s 10), bringing the total number of victims since the start of the Covid emergency to 35,603 (35,597). Currently positive people are 37,503 (from 36,767 in the previous survey). The total number of cases of contagion detected is 289,297 (284,796). As for those discharged / recovered, their number is equal to 213,191 (they were 212,432).
The newsletter on the spread of Covid infection in Italy also takes stock of the number of swabs made daily by the laboratories of the Regions. The tests carried out in the last 24 hours and recorded by the Ministry of Health are 92,706 (yesterday they were 98,880), which brings the total number of swabs since the beginning of the epidemic to 9,745,975 (for 5,875,462 cases analyzed). The number of people admitted to intensive care is currently 182, seven more than yesterday; those hospitalized with symptoms 1,951, while the number of people kept under medical observation in home isolation was 35,370.

In Emilia Romagna there are 138 new cases of coronavirus positivity, compared to almost 10 thousand swabs made in the last 24 hours. With this in mind, the upcoming new rapid tests could bring relief, but also be a source of further problems. “We are overbooked, under pressure and we have to say no to many requests,” explains virologist Francesco Broccolo, from the University of Milan Bicocca and director of the Cerba laboratory in Milan.
“This is the situation we are experiencing in the North, but it is probably the case for all Italian laboratories, both public and private, that report to the regional crisis units,” he adds.
