Giuseppe Conte In the last period he has established himself more and more as a political leader, so much so that rumors about him creating your own party they become more and more insistent.
However, the Prime Minister stated that it is not really his intention to think of a new party. At the moment his role is at Palazzo Chigi, then we will see. A posture that could also hide a different project: Perhaps Conte is not thinking of a new party since his political future is already defined and he sees it as next leader of the center-left coalition.
Regarding this hypothesis, in the last hours Please of the governor of Emilia Romagna, Stefano bonaccini, who lately speaks more and more as leader of dem. Words that confirm the existence of certain discontent within the Democratic Party with respect to the figure of Zingaretti, who would hardly be the center-left candidate (with and without the support of the 5-Star Movement) in the next political elections.
The dem are looking for a strong figure capable of countering an opposition that has never experienced a moment of maximum popularity before. So why not Giuseppe Conte, who during the pandemic was able to acquire, according to polls, more and more support?
Giuseppe Conte, new leader of the center-left?
Giuseppe Conte is a last minute pentastellate. As he himself stated, in fact, it is usually I’ve always been a center-left voter, to then approach the 5 Star Movement for 2018 policies and the Europeans of 2019.
On the other hand, on February 27, 2018 he was presented by Di Maio as the next Minister of Public Administrations if the M5S had won the elections. We know how it was: the government was formed only thanks to the agreement between the Movimento 5 Stelle and the Lega and Giuseppe Conte was elected to head this new majority.
With the transition from an M5S-Lega majority to an M5S-Center-left majority, Giuseppe Conte certainly found an environment closer to his political ideas. And with this experience, the premier is always buying greater support within the center left, as confirmed directly by the governor of the Emilia Romagna region, dem Stefano Bonaccini, during the Festa dell’Unità.
Who asks if Conte can be the leader of a center-left coalition in the future (which could also include the 5-Star Movement, but the difficulties encountered in regional alliances leave some doubts in this regard), Bonaccini answers the following:
I don’t know, I know Conte is ruling well. He handled the pandemic much better than many European leaders. The government will be judged by the Recovery Fund and by economic and social recovery. If he’s successful there, I think he can run for office and easily be a leader of the center-left.
Words that leave no room for interpretation: Conte is a candidate to be a leader of the center-left and much will depend on how Italy spends the incoming resources with the Recovery Fund.
Giuseppe Conte leader of the center-left, Bonaccini of the PD?
If Giuseppe Conte could be the face of a center-left coalition, Stefano Bonaccini could be the new secretary of the Democratic Party. In fact, rumors of a Bonaccini who would like to take Zingaretti’s place are becoming more and more insistent, a hypothesis on which, however, he slows down:
Unfortunately, we are used to reasoning about our personal destiny. If I had to think like this, I could have asked the Democratic Party to run for the European Championships … The secretary is there, his name is Nicola Zingaretti. For the good I want it, I tell him: put a little more mayors in the management team. The Democratic Party needs to give more value to those who have won in recent years, when they were lost everywhere.
In short, Bonaccini does not want – according to him – to be the new secretary of the PD but then reasons as if he were giving important information to Zingaretti. And adding that the Government should not let the resources from the ESM escape, an instrument that is too important without which Italy will not be able to restart.
