Auriane Fatuma Bindela, thirty years old, snatching the crucifix from the leader of the League shouting “I curse you”, was singled out as “crazy”. But behind her gesture someone wants to see something darker.
According to Il Giornale, the act of violence could also be read under a different key, that of black magic. More precisely: from a voodoo rite. Yes again. The mind immediately changes to a few years ago when another exponent of the Northern League, Roberto Calderoli, claimed to be the victim of a macumba. It was 2013, the time when the Lega had not yet hidden the North of its name and Enrico Letta presided over Palazzo Chigi. During the Lega (North) party in Treviglio, Calderoli addressed the then Minister of Integration, Cécile Kyenge, of Congolese origin, comparing her to an “orangutan”.
Justice continued its course, condemning Calderoli in the first instance to one year and six months, who was recognized as a racist aggravation. But even “divine” justice took revenge. According to the chronicle of the Northern League, the father of the Kyenge of his African village would have performed a rite against the Northern League and from that moment several misfortunes followed for Calderoli, which he himself confirmed: shortly after the death of his mother, a bad fall at home gave him breaking a vertebra and fracturing two fingers and, as if that were not enough, a large snake was found in the house. Whether out of fear or superstition, the result was that Calderoli apologized to the Kyenge by retracting the racist adjective: “I didn’t want to, it was a joke.” Therefore, the Lega (North) seems to know well what it means to be touched by black magic.
Moral of the story: it is not enough to reduce everything to a condemnable act of violence on the part of an individual when there is the possibility of continuing to feed the extravagant speeches, even misrepresenting a wound by a genuine curse. Be prepared to find the cause of a future itchy head in a macumba. That’s why it couldn’t end there.
