On the contrary: “Don’t call the police, otherwise you will ruin the party!” a girl yelled at those who tried to help the two English women who had just been raped. The torturers were at least five, maybe ten. Four of them are in prison thanks to a lightning investigation carried out by the Matera mobile team coordinated by the commissioner, Luigi Liguori, a highly experienced police officer who wanted to personally follow the investigation.
The story, told by the Matera examining magistrate, was like this. For about a month, two English girls were on vacation in Basilicata, the region of origin of one of the two. On the 6th, they decided to participate, with the older sister of one of the two – based on the invitation received from a well-known friend of the area that we will call Francesca – in a party in the Pisticci field: it was a birthday but “it was an extended party – we read in the minutes – it was also allowed to bring other guests “.
Around one o’clock in the morning the cousin “of one of the two English women” also arrives at this party. “Upon my arrival at the place – the girl states it – I see about fifty people invited to drink and dance in the central part. I look for my cousins and I see my older cousin, followed by the two younger ones, upset: they were crying. They told me in English, even though they only speak English: “Help. Help them, they took us from behind”, which means, “Help, help, there were so many back there.” Not understanding what had happened, I tried to calm them down. At that moment my older cousin intervened. She told me: “They raped them both.”
Playing now ….
It was like this. A group of boys, coming from nearby Pisticci, had abused them. They had been taken to the back of the villa and abused, probably after drugging them. The details are chilling. Impossible to even think. “They called me and I arrived immediately,” his uncle will say. They were all drunk except for one child, named Stefano, who came forward and told me that if I needed him he would be at my disposal. Shortly after, Francesca, the girl with whom my granddaughters had gone to that party, came over. The girl began with this phrase: “Don’t ruin the party, don’t call the police, this is my friend’s party. I told her to tell me right away who the guys were who had abused my niece and her friend. She said they were boys from Pisticci and she didn’t know their names. “
I did not know that once at home, still upset, the girls would recognize the first of them in some Instagram photos: there are them lifting weights, flaunting bottles of champagne or tenderness with a granddaughter in their arms. A few hours later, while one of them was still posting stories on Instagram, the Matera cops were outside their homes. Now I am in jail. But the investigation, they say, has only just begun.
