There is a very high sting coming for Italian Post Office customers who have an account. For those who have a Postepay Evolution card, the rates are reviewed. Since Monday, the news has also gone off for those who have the card before December 31, 2018. But let’s explain well what the new commission consists of.
What is the Poste Italiane account card?
First of all we explain that Postepay Evolution is an account card. That is, it is a card equipped with Iban, with which you can make payments, receive and make transfers, pay bills, and credit your salary. Basically it is a card with many of the functions that a common checking account offers. Obviously you have to recharge it, but it is like depositing money in a normal checking account. Operation that can be carried out with a bank transfer from another current account, or online through the website of the Italian Post Office. It can also be recharged by going to a post office or through authorized points of sale.
The fight against cash drives the use of digital cards
In times of fight against tax evasion and reduction of cash for payments, a debit, credit or account card becomes indispensable. Obviously its use entails costs, although, in some cases, they are minimal.
And the costs are also incurred by Postepay Evolution, which as of January 1, 2019 has an annual fee of 12 euros, one euro per month. Rent that has increased from the previous 10 euros. So all Postepay Evolution owners from January 1, 2019 pay an annual fee of 12 euros.
But those who had it before this date, how much do they pay?
Salty sting for Italian Post Office customers who have an account
And here comes the sting for Postepay Evolution owners. Let’s see the facts. Poste Italiane’s cost policy has allowed Postepay Evolution holders to keep the annual cost at 10 euros. Cost valid until September 4. From that date on, the annual fee has risen to 12 euros, even for those who have the card before January 1, 2019.
Two euros may seem small, but it is 20% more in cost.

The other costs will remain unchanged, particularly those for ATM withdrawals. Free withdrawals from postal ATMs and € 2 from bank ATMs.
