They immediately notified the school, which despite being a holiday, immediately started up and informed all the families of the 45 children enrolled in the second year of primary school (in two different classes) of an alleged case of Covid.
Yesterday tomorrow the hyssop in the baby, 8 years, has resolved all doubts: positive. Since last Monday, as a precaution, all second runners have stayed at home. And with them also two teachers. Fortunately, the two classes have their own space. In short, they do not share common spaces with the students of the other years. However, the ASL informed the institute that no official communication has yet arrived. So, for ‘The International School of Florence’ at least until yesterday only the child was in quarantine. While everyone else, including the teachers, was home as a precaution. The ASL, contacted yesterday afternoon by our newspaper, has made it known that “there are 14 children and two teachers in quarantine.”
In addition to the American school, there was also a case of positivity in a mugello high school. This time it happened that a child who went to school for remedial courses showed symptoms related to the coronavirus. Thus, two teachers and some boys ended up in quarantine (ASL could not tell us exactly how many). In short, we are not yet in the fateful September 14 and the first cases are already appearing. Not the best of beginnings. “What will happen when all the children have returned?” It is the question that rebounds in the heads of all parents, who seem worried – for a thousand reasons – about this complicated restart.
If there is a suspected case of Covid-19 in a school, or in a child care service, there is a very specific protocol to follow. The person presenting with symptoms is provided with a surgical mask, if they do not already have one, and is escorted to the dedicated case management room that the schools have identified. The person is assisted by the ‘Covid contact person’, or by a teacher designated for this by the school: if it is a student, the parents are called who must notify the pediatrician or general practitioner that they will proceed with the telephone classification and possibly address the student. and parents to clean. If the swab is positive, the local health authority begins the epidemiological investigation to establish contacts at the school.
