Coronavirus, first positive case at school: quarantine is activated

The bogeyman has materialized. First child with positive coronavirus in school, with two classes that, therefore, have ended up in quarantine. But how is it possible, one might wonder, that the first bell rings on Monday, September 14, after long months of closure?

The answer is simple: it happened at the International School of Florence, a private ‘high-ranking’ school, based in Bagno a Ripoli, with English lessons, where the children of VIPs or wealthy families can pay for their studies.

The confirmation of the first positive case, according to the La Nazione newspaper, took place yesterday, after a swab in a second-grade child, as confirmed by the ASL.

At the ‘American school’ the lessons began on September 3, while La Nazione rebuilds. After the first days of school, the child on Sunday presented symptoms compatible with Covid and the parents contacted the school and the health authorities.

The appropriate procedures were started, according to protocol, with all the children enrolled in the second (two classes, which do not share spaces with other classes, which therefore could continue regularly) remained at home since Monday, without returning to school, as well as two teachers.

In quarantine, the Florentine newspaper reports, there are now two teachers and 14 children, all in good health. Another positive case, La Nazione always reports, would have occurred in an institute in Mugello, where, as in other schools, remedial courses have been started.

Monday everyone in class everywhere. The protocol in case a student has symptoms is there: he is equipped with a mask if he does not yet use it, accompanied in the ‘ad hoc room’ identified by the school, assisted by the ‘Covid referent’ (a teacher that each school must identify), the parents and the family doctor are called and the procedures are carried out until the swab, with the investigation of the contacts if it is positive.
