One in two workers, among those subjected to a swab, is positive for Covid. It occurs in Polignano a Mare, in the province of Bari, in a fruit and vegetable company, Sop, where the Asl de Bari prevention department has detected 78 Coronavirus infections among employees. After the report last Saturday of a positive worker, the epidemiological surveillance procedures were activated within the company and 78 subjects were positive out of the 159 swabs made. The company closed since yesterday. The execution of other swabs is planned – reports ASL Bari – in parallel with the surveillance activity on the close contacts of the positives verified so far.
The closure of the municipality
Sop deals with the collection and sale (after first processing) of fruits and vegetables, and is very active in exports. In Polignano a Mare there was also a positivity for the Municipality, and it is not ruled out that there may be a connection with the Sop outbreak. There is a positivity found in an employee – announced Mayor Domenico Vitto, who is also president of Anci Puglia – and for this reason I have arranged the closure of the municipal building for sanitation and all employees, including myself, are undergoing serological testing. The results so far are negative. These are moments of apprehension for the entire community, but we cannot lose clarity at such a delicate time.
The Proving Ground Tent
We still do not know how many of these positives live in Polignano – the mayor still explains on Facebook – but it is clear that the situation is as delicate as ever. The mayor agreed on the strategies to be put in place to better deal with the situation together with the prefect of Bari, Antonia Bellomo, the manager of the ASL, Domenico Lagravinese and the head of Civil Protection, Mario Lerario: In the next few hours – concludes Vitto – A tent will be set up near the sports field for all those who want to make a swab with the drive-in mode, starting with the closest contacts of the positive ones.
