Tonight, Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte signed the decree (Dpcm) to extend the measures against the coronavirus decided on August 7, until October 7. The extension had been expected for a few days and was necessary to maintain the provisions already adopted in early August.

The only significant change in the extension is the addition of the possibility to complete a self-certification for those who come from countries from which it was not possible to reach Italy until now. The self-declaration serves to confirm that, once in Italy, you will reside in the house of a person “even if you do not live together”, but with whom you maintain “a stable emotional relationship”. Self-certification will also be valid as a communication to the ASL and will be accompanied by the obligation of quarantine for 14 days. Swabbing is still mandatory if you return to Italy from Croatia, Greece, Malta and Spain.

The new Dpcm confirms the regulations already in force, including those that make the use of masks mandatory in indoor and outdoor places where physical distancing is not possible. Public transportation can only be filled to 80 percent of capacity. The expansion also affects the nightclubs, which will remain closed.

Conte also launched some in-depth studies for a plan aimed at reducing the use of cash for payments in commercial establishments, encouraging the use of electronic contactless payments. There is not much other news on the subject for now, but many health institutions advise avoiding cash, the exchange of which in commercial activities could favor the spread of the infection.
