“What is it, a man?” With this offensive phrase Marco Gervasoni, Professor of Contemporary History at the University of Molise, commented on the cover of theEspresso dedicated to the Vice President of Emilia-Romagna Elly schlein. Gervasoni is not new to his misogynistic comments on social media, so much so that in September 2019 he was expelled from Luiss after a Tweet against Carola Rackete and the NGO Sea Watch. Not happy with Gervasoni, after having attacked among others Liliana Segre me Ilaria Cucchi, now the teacher takes it out on Schlein and criticizes her for her physical appearance.
Gervasoni’s sentence did not go unnoticed on Twitter and there were numerous messages of solidarity for the former MEP. So much so that the teacher decided to cancel the Tweet due to too much criticism and tried to justify, saying that his intention was to play a “Social experiment”. Among those who spoke in favor of Schlein, also Region President Pd. Stefano bonaccini: “She is simply the vice president of a beautiful region called Emilia-Romagna, elected by the voters and appointed by me. Instead, she is simply a scoundrel “the governor wrote.
The deputy also spoke in defense of Schlein Laura Boldrini and the senator Valeria Fedeli and the secretary general of the CISL Annamaria furlan: “They are unacceptable sexist and derogatory attacks towards women involved in institutions and politics ”. Criticisms of Gervasoni also from theformer rector of the University of Molise, Gianmaria Palmieri: “I am sure that her image as a woman and citizen committed to the institutions will not even be affected by a comment of such baseness and vulgarity.”
The University of Molise has distanced itself from the professor’s words and invited Elly Schlein to a meeting at the Unimol headquarters. “The University of Molise,” a note reads, “does not identify with the political positions or opinions of individual professors. It guarantees everyone the freedom of teaching, calling for respect for constitutional values and attitudes that respect human dignity and are in accordance with the ethics of university teachers. By condemning all forms of discrimination and improper use of the media, considering the relevance of these issues, it promotes a study day in which the rector, Luca Brunese, has already personally invited, after a cordial phone conversation, the dott.ssa Elly Schlein ”.
