ROME. It is an open clash between the government and Matteo Salvini over the minutes of the Scientific Technical Committee, a tough question and answer between the leader of the League who accuses the government of having hidden the documents of the experts and the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza who responds defining the first. Deputy Prime Minister a “small leader who puts the interests of one party before those of the country.” Salvini attacks from the pages of the Corriere della Sera with an intervention in which he accuses the executive of having kept the experts’ documents secret on the risks of the epidemic, also excluding the opposition and regional presidents: “The prime minister has taken on the enormous responsibility of not sharing information.” An indictment that ends with a request for explanations before the House and Senate: “The government must explain to Parliament why it has kept silent on the risks of the virus.”
Hope is not there, that accusation of having acted carbonara simply does not digest it. The answer to Salvini is abrupt and flatly denies the reconstruction of the leader of the League: «The study of the CTS, to me, in mid-February, was presented by the delegate of the regions. This study was carried out by the CTS and within the CTS there is a representation of the regions ”. A poisonous passage, because, emphasizes the Minister of Health, “the person who introduced it to me is an exponent of the main region of our country in terms of inhabitants who, as is known, do not belong to the forces that support our government” . In short, says Speranza, apart from the lack of transparency, it was a representative of Lombardy – a region led by the League – to illustrate the study that according to Salvini the government would have kept secret.
The regions, and even the opposition, according to Speranza, were informed. Instead, public dissemination was avoided, but by decision of the CTS itself: “The secretion was a choice of the CTS because it was a document with very varied hypotheses.” Confidentiality was chosen “in order not to raise the alarm, on the one hand, but also because the range of hypotheses being examined was very wide.”
Then, the direct attack on the leader of the Northern League: “Salvini’s letter is incorrect because it divides Italy and gives the idea of a small leader who puts partisan interests before those of the country.” Apart from ‘superficiality’, as Salvini says, ‘the government has always affirmed the line of health protection. We decided from the outset that there was a price to be paid from an economic and relational point of view, but we had to put health in the foreground.
“In these difficult months – he concluded – I have not had a controversy with anyone, I do not intend to follow the leader of the opposition. We are facing such a great event, with loss of human life, that it does not deserve the theater of political controversy.
