Economic consequences byItaly victim of COVID-19 pandemic: spoke about it in Economy Minister, Roberto Gualtieri, during the Cernobbio Ambrosetti Forum (where Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte attended yesterday).

Gualtieri spoke of the economic consequences caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and said rather optimistic compared to what will happen in the coming months when a bounce beyond expectations. The Minister of Economy also spoke of another burning issue and on which a large part of the future -economic and not only- of the country will depend: that Recovery Fund that will allow Italy to use 209 billion euros for investments aimed at relaunching.

According to the Minister of Economy, there will be confident about the future: soon, at least economically, we will see the first consequences of a recovery that will always take place more pronounced as the months go by. And the GDP data for the third quarter of the year will confirm this.

Gualtieri is optimistic about the economic consequences of COVID-19

The second quarter of the year ended with a GDP reduced by 12.8%; an alarming fact, caused by the health crisis and the consequent blockade. However, after difficult months, the Italian economy has already shown that it can rise again: as Gualtieri stated during the Cernobbio Ambrosetti Forum, in fact, by the third trimester there will be a GDP reboundgreater than expected”.

According to the surveys carried out by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, there is a wide set of indicators that justify this confidence. For example, according to the data communicated by the Treasury, the tax revenues as of August 20 showed an increase of 9%; a situation that for Gualtieri is enough to make expect a strong rebound in GDP in the third quarter.

It must be said, however, that these data are misleading: there are several factors, in fact, that seem to justify this higher tax collection, such as the fact that compared to 2019 -when the tax settlement period was extended to 30 September-c ‘there was less time for payments (the deadline for 2020 was set at July 20).

However, the Ministry of Economy remains confident that Italy may emerge from the crisis at a faster pace than expected until a few months ago: obviously we all expect it, but we hope that they are not statements. Made just to spread optimism.

In detail, Gualtieri gave some advances regarding what will be certified with the NADEF (the update note to the DEF) at the end of September, where it will be confirmed that the The average annual fall in Italian GDP will not be in double digits as was thought instead (although it will still be necessary to take into account what may happen in the fourth quarter, which will depend on the evolution of the pandemic).

Gualtieri sul recovery fund

Italy’s revival plan will obviously depend on the success of the project linked to Recovery Fund. In this regard, Gualtieri assured that the Government will be in a hurry in this regard and therefore. won’t wait for april deadline since it will present the projects related to the Recovery Fund already January 2021, namely “the first day they will be published in the Official Gazette”.

The objective is to provide investments that can have an organicity between them, to prevent them from being disconnected. The areas of intervention will be different: digitization all infrastructure, of training to greeting.

All with the ambition of finding ourselves in front of an Italy that after the emergency will be a better country than the one we had before the crisis.
