(ANSA) – NEW YORK, SEPTEMBER 7 – Novak Djokovic apologized last night in a message posted on social media after his disqualification in the round of 16 of the US Open for an angry gesture in which he hit a linesman.
“I apologize to the US Open and to all who have been affected by my behavior: sorry,” wrote the world number 1 tennis player and great favorite of the tournament who had left the stadium without attending a press conference.
“I feel very sad and empty after what happened. I asked him about the linesman and the tournament told me that thank God he feels good. I am very sorry to have caused him so much stress. It was completely involuntary,” continues the Serbian.
“As for my disqualification, I have to introspect and work on my disappointment to learn a lesson to move forward and progress as a tennis player and as a human being,” concludes Djokovic.
