It is what will become in October what was the municipal kennel of via Tiro a Segno, where the extraordinary renovation works were completed, financed by the municipal administration and at a cost of two and a half million euros. The works, which had already been subcontracted in 2012, had started several years late due to the overcrowding of the structure, which took a long time to empty. They started in 2017, they ended in the last few days. In addition to the total remodeling of the systems, the spaces were remodeled and new areas were created for the reception of indoor and outdoor animals.

The veterinary hospital will be built in an area of more than five thousand square meters, of which two thousand are specifically intended for medical assistance with hospitalization and care areas, as well as a green area for walking the animals with a companion. The structure will also handle the microchipping of privately owned animals and a total of up to 70 animals can be cared for and housed at the same time.

The activity of the shelter will continue to take place in the old slaughterhouse, “where however – explains the councilor Piampiano – the number of dogs is destined to decrease more and more precisely due to the reactivation of the veterinary unit in via Tiro a rótulo, where it will be It is possible to proceed quickly and systematically with sterilization and therefore with the reintroduction into the territory of the vast majority of cats and dogs, that is, those that are not considered dangerous to humans and other animals ”.

For Mayor Leoluca Orlando and the commissioner, “Palermo is finally beginning to have a modern and avant-garde veterinary facility thanks to the collaboration with the ASP with which we will formalize the agreement in the coming days. A structure in which the animals can be treated and cared for while protecting their health and that of the entire community ”.

“An activity – they say in chorus – that we hope and count on being able to continue carrying out not only with municipal staff and Reset but with the support of volunteers and voluntary associations that take care of animals. The activation of a garrison of this type, unique in our province and in a vast regional territory, will also allow the Municipality of Palermo to carry out animal care and sterilization activities not only in our city but also in other municipalities, thus contributing to a serious struggle against stray animals. on a supramunicipal scale “.
