Dear Attorney,
I’m a freelance footballer, forward with experience in Serie D and Lega Pro. Attacking profession, 34 years old! I was left without a team and without a proxy, abandoned by everyone. Reason? They consider me “old” because of the new restrictions for more of the Lega Pro. Then I read the news of the transfer market where the highest paid and desired forwards have an average age of 34 (Ronaldo, Messi, Suárez and Dzeko: average age approx. 3. 4!). Good for those who are champions and deserve what they get, but a thirty-four year old third division footballer would at least deserve respect as we are professional footballers too. I am angry at the system that should benefit football clubs (managers think only of youth playing time!) To the detriment of footballers over 30. It’s not just a personal whine like, like me, hanging around there will be at least 200 other players! What you think? What could be a solution? Bomber ’86
Dear Bomber ’86,
excuse the provocative question: are you really a bomber? Because you see that 34-year-old footballers are not very old if they still mark and make a difference like the great champions you mentioned. And it is precisely in the lowest category that experienced strikers are the first players on the sports directors’ wish list. Young players (the useful and indispensable to receive money if they are employed on the field) will hardly go to fill the most delicate roles of defense (central defense) and attack (central forward); bombers are a rare commodity and old CDs with many career goals will always be sought after (and well paid) by sports directors, even in times of limited overs.
In any case, I welcome your complaint because there is a grain of truth, and how. In fact, it should be remembered that for next season the Lega Pro teams will be limited to 22 players with the obligation to include many young players up to the 98 category.
So if an over can’t find a team, what to do? Could be folded back into D series where bombers are always welcome or try their luck abroad even in minor leagues?
It only remains to ask for help from a sports agent who has contacts abroad … not only is there the flight to the outside of our brain, but also that of footballers with good feet!
But now I pass the ball to the users of calciomercato.com: Up to what age can a forward secure double-digit goals for his team?
