In Melbourne, Australia, 17 people were arrested and 160 fined during a protest against the lockdown and measures taken by authorities to contain the spread of the coronavirus. In particular, one protester was arrested for assaulting a policeman and 15 others were arrested for violating the instructions of the Ministry of Health. The protest took place late in the morning on Saturday (Australian time) in front of the Shrine of Remembrance, the monument to the fallen; According to the Victoria State Police, where Melbourne is located, there were about 200 people.

The protest, titled Freedom Day, was organized on social media by several conspiratorial groups and opposed restrictions on coronavirus, vaccines and the 5G network. Reading the slogans, among the Melbourne protesters were coronavirus deniers, people who accuse the state of taking advantage of the pandemic to increase controls on citizens, others worried about some consequences of the lockdown: the economic crisis, the psychological damage and the increase of cases of violence against women (which also occurred in Italy). There were many Australian flags and people without masks, contrary to what the state required, even outdoors.
