The attempted escape along state highway 115, at the entrance to Siculiana, occurred in the middle of the night. A group of migrants -after having protested throughout the afternoon, with about twenty of them who had also climbed on the roof of the reception structure- managed to escape, reaching the road. To chase them, to try to block them and bring them back, the policemen who were in the surveillance service in Villa Sikania. However, the Volkswagen Touareg fell on the fleeing migrants and police officers and overwhelmed them. For the Eritrean there was nothing to do, the three officers were wounded. The police (also the Agrigento police commissioner) and the carabinieri worked on the ground throughout the night and carried out the reliefs to reconstruct the dynamics of the accident. At dawn the driver was stopped and apparently did not stop immediately after the impact.
