The episode dates back to March 30, but only now has the family released the images. The victim’s name was Daniel Prude, 30, of Chicago. He had just arrived in Rochester to visit his family. Police intervened after Brother Joe called 911 to report his brother missing from the home they were in, explaining that Daniel suffered from mental disorders.

The video shows the man running naked on the street, but when the intervening police officers order him to lie down, he obeys and puts his hands behind his head. He looks very agitated and screams while being handcuffed. The officers then put his head in a “spitting” mask, a kind of hood used to protect police officers from detainees’ saliva, especially in times of pandemic. She itches to beg to take off that hood that is not letting her breathe, but in response an officer hits her head on the ground and then with both hands keeps her pressed against the asphalt, yelling at the man “just spit!”

Meanwhile, the screams turn to moans and grunts, as another officer puts a knee on his back. The agents begin to worry only when the man begins to vomit, just before he is completely unconscious. The agents are now being investigated by the New York State Attorney’s Office. A medical examiner’s report speaks of “homicide caused by the complications of suffocation by physical duress.”
