The fight against the coronavirus continues in Lombardy. On Tuesday, September 1, another 242 people tested positive (compared to 16,200 swabs), 43 of which in the province of Brescia
But what is worrisome is the increase in pressure on hospitals: on Tuesday, health facilities in the Region registered 17 admissions in the covid wards (the total reached 212), while in intensive care they attend 21 people (one less than Monday). The long road of deaths does not seem to end: the (official) deaths amounted to 16,867, two more than on Monday.
The Lombard province with the most cases of Covid-19 is Milan (114), followed by Brescia (43), Varese (14), Monza and Brianza, Pavía (10), Mantua (8), Como (7), Lodi (1 ), Sondrio (0).
The situation in Italy
Although new positivity diagnoses remain below the threshold of a thousand new cases (978), hospital admissions are increasing (+105). And, unfortunately, the number of serious patients requiring intensive care treatment is growing (+13): there are 107 in total, when just last July 29 the Ministry of Health reported only 38.
As reported on August 16 by well-known biologist Enrico Bucci, the trend in intensive care showed a rise that exactly reflects the decline that had led to the lows at the end of July. “It returned us exactly 2 months, to the values observed at the end of June,” explains the professor at Temple University in Philadelphia.
“The ‘late response’ of intensive care has begun,” writes the scientist. They are still small numbers, but the derivative of growth is increasing; We do not underestimate this signal ”, warns Bucci, who invites us to pay more attention and decrease as much as possible. Possible occasions of infection that may affect subjects at higher risk.
