WEATHER UNTIL SEPTEMBER 7, 2020, ANALYSIS AND FORECAST
Despite the shift from the heart of the depression to Central-Eastern Europe, a certain unstable influence still remains in Italy, dictated by the additional flow of pulses of fresh air at high altitudes. The episodes of rain, but more localized, continue to penalize the Alps and the Triveneto, nothing to do with the severe bad weather of the days.
The cool north currents, which continue to flow towards Italy, favor a very pleasant climate with temperatures even below average. September therefore began with a truly drastic turn, to sanction the passage towards meteorological autumn. This big update won’t last long and temperatures are expected to gradually increase.
However, time will have difficulties to fully recover in the short term, due to the persistence of a baric gap in the Mediterranean area. Therefore, the marginal influence of the depression will continue to exist in Central-Eastern Europe, but a disturbance in transit will also be monitored in the lower Mediterranean, which in the central part of the week will touch the southern tip of Italy.
ANTI CYCLONE IN AFFIRMATION, BUT THEN NEW ATLANTIC INSIDES
The anticyclonic comeback will take place very slowly and therefore we will continue to have instability, although localized. Only as of Friday will the anticyclone from the west take more possession of Italy, giving the final shoulder to the cyclonic circulation over Central Europe that will move definitively towards the Black Sea.
The weak reefs will remain active in the extreme south, due to a small depression nestled between Tunisia and the two main islands, which will subsequently move to the Ionian Sea. At the same time, thanks to the attenuation of the flow of cool northern currents, temperatures will rise and settle at values in line with seasonal averages.
During the weekend, the weather will pick up even more, even in southern Italy. However, new unstable infiltrations could alter the weather in the alpine areas as of Sunday. They will be humid currents carried by a North Atlantic depression that will partially descend in latitude, thus weakening the anticyclonic field in the Mediterranean.
WEATHER ON WEDNESDAY 2 SEPTEMBER, SOME DAYS THUNDERSTORMS
We will again find an uncertain climate in the north, with some rain in the morning near the Alpine Arch. In the hottest hours, showers and thunderstorms will form more widespread in the Alps, and then they will cross, between afternoon and night in the Po valley, first in the Triveneto and then also in the northwest, mainly involving the area north of the Po.
In general, the climate will be sunnier in the Center-South, although with skies furrowed by some mist and medium-high stratification. A transit disturbance in the Lower Mediterranean could bring more compact cloudiness first to southern Sardinia and then to Sicily. Some isolated rains, between afternoon and evening, can affect some mountainous areas of the two main islands.
THE STRONGEST ANTICYCLONE COMING OVER ITALY
On Thursday, the weather will not change much yet, with some obstacles in the north, but patchy clouds are also expected over the Adriatic regions. Some isolated phenomena will be more likely in the afternoon in the Alpine foothills and along the north-central Apennine range, especially in the interior areas of Tuscany.
The further consolidation of the high pressure will play in favor of a Friday with a more stable and sunny climate almost everywhere, although with the usual formation of some cumulus clouds along the alpine and Apennine areas. Instability will be most acute in the inland areas of Lower Calabria and Sicily, with thunderstorms that could cross the eastern coasts of the island.
RISING TEMPERATURE, WILL RETURN A LITTLE HOT
In the middle of the week we will observe a change in temperature, with slight increases mainly in the maximum values, thanks to the greater insolation. At the end of the week the weather will warm up again, although without excesses, with some peaks of 30-32 degrees in some places between the South and the two Major Islands.
MORE CLIMATE TRENDS
The weekend will start with good weather prevailing, for a comeback from the west of the anticyclone that will bring back a hint of summer. However, a new Atlantic cavity will tend to sink towards the Bay of Biscay and will gradually lead to new unstable infiltrations in northern Italy from the Alps, with possible electrical storms. Instability could increase early in the week.
