After five days of searching, the body was identified by fire brigade divers at a depth of 125 meters off the coast of Abbadia Lariana (Lecco).

The girl was with her family, originally from Ghana and living in the Monzese area, on the banks of the Lario, the Lecco branch of Lake Como, to spend a few hours of relaxation. While bathing with her mother, they both found themselves in trouble: the 12-year-old girl was swept away in seconds, while the woman was helped by her husband back to shore. Searches started immediately, lasting even on days of bad weather. Fatou’s body was found about 200 meters from the beach where the family was staying.
