Four out of ten are close contacts of people who are already infected with the coronavirus. Another victim, very old. Another serious case
FLORENCE – am 40 the new Covid-19 positives identified in Tuscany in the last 24 hours according to the new regional bulletin. Of these eleven were identified by following up close contacts of people who had already contracted the disease, 29 through controls carried out at workplaces, stations, ports and airports. One of the new cases is related to a return to Italy fromestuary, 4 to return from Sardinia and 1 ofEmilia romagna. Only two provinces where no new cases have been registered: Lucca and Livorno.
[GALLERY(0)]The average age of the newly infected is 41 years (25% are under 26 years old, 23% between 26 and 40, 42% between 41 and 65, only 10% are over 65). Just over half (55%) it is asymptomatic, 33% have one or two symptoms, 9% mild symptoms.
Since the beginning of the emergency, therefore, the coronavirus positives identified in Tuscany have been 11,898 and of these 9,175 they are cured. In the last 24 hours there has also been a new death, a 79-year-old man who lives in Forte dei Marmi.
Excluding the healed and deceased, the positives currently in the regional territory are today 1,581. Of these, 1,519 they are isolated at home, due to presenting mild symptoms that do not require hospital care or are asymptomatic (5 more than yesterday); 62 instead they are hospitalized (2 more than yesterday), of which 9 in intensive care because in serious condition (one more than yesterday).
On the other hand, there are 3,871 people, also isolated, under active surveillance because they have had contact with infected people, 137 more than yesterday and distributed as follows: Asl Centro 1,670, Northwest 1,496, Southeast 705.
To make a comparison, on August 1 there were 6 new cases of contagion and the people who tested positive in the region at that time were 392, a quarter of the current ones.
[GALLERY(1)]The following are the cases of positivity in the area since the beginning of the pandemic with the change compared to yesterday:
– 3,691 cases in total to date in Florence (18 more than yesterday), 625 in Prato (2 more), 829 in Pistoia (4 more),
– 1,235 in Massa (7 more), 1,536 in Lucca, 1,069 in Pisa (3 more), 557 in Livorno,
– 846 in Arezzo (4 more), 510 in Siena (1 more), 486 in Grosseto (1 more).
There are 514 positive cases reported in Tuscany but resident in other regions.
Tuscany is confirmed in Tenth place in Italy as a number of cases (including residents and non-residents), with around 319 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (Italian average around 446 x 100,000, yesterday’s figure).
The reporting provinces with the highest rate are Massa Carrara with 634 cases x 100,000 inhabitants, Lucca with 396, Florence with 365; the one with the lowest rate is still Livorno with 166.

Tuscany’s crude death rate (number of deaths / resident population) for Covid-19 is 30.6 x 100,000 residents versus 58.8 x 100,000 for the Italian average (11th region).
Regarding the provinces, the highest mortality rate is found in Massa Carrara (89.8 x 100 000), Florence (41.2 x 100 000) and Lucca (37.9 x 100 000), the lowest in Grosseto (11.3 x 100,000).
