There is no common line of action. But staff are available for non-mandatory testing.
Genoa – Part today, although not officially, the first school year in Liguria in the Covid era, with the convening of the first faculty meeting and, in some cases, even with the start of remedial courses for students, despite the fact that many principals have not yet decided when to convene students to catch up with those who are they were left behind.
A situation, the regional one, that appears irregular where it does not seem to exist a common line of action, but each director, calendar in hand, is deciding how best to organize their activities. In this situation, there are at least three other issues that are still burning and will have to be resolved within the sound of the first bell: the Covid tests for teachers and Ata staff, the problem of spaces yet to be found before the return of all the students to school and the reorganization of local public transport. The first teachers’ college, practically in all schools, is scheduled for today and will be held via videoconference with teachers who will not have to attend the school.
It seems to be much more confusing the case of starting remedial courses. Angelo Capizzi, director (now retired), in Genoa, of the professional institute “Nino Bergese” and president of the National Association of Directors of Genoa, explains that “a specific note from the Ministry indicates that the recoveries made from September 1 to 14 should be considered ordinary activity, that is, unpaid. But activities outside school hours and periods must be paid, as the contract says. There are schools that will decide to start based on the availability of teachers, others will plan courses in the first nine days of lessons Others will start during the school year.
In Bergese, for example, it will be the staff who will determine when to start remedial courses. Same situation at Doria High School while Gobetti High School will start today, while at Marco Polo hotel on Thursday. In some cases, students will have to report to school while in others lessons will be taught online. In the province of Imperia the institutes will start between tomorrow and September 10. And a date stew will also be produced in the provinces of Savona and La Spezia.
As to serological tests, the estimate is that around 75% of Ata teachers and staff operating in Liguria, before the start of the new school year, will undergo the tests, which are not mandatory at this time. “So far we have found good support from general practitioners to perform swabs – explains Andrea Carraro of the Italian Federation of General Practitioners -. Now we await the response of the teachers and staff of Ata on a voluntary basis. In Savona, for example, there are now an average of four out of ten teachers and other school workers who have shown their willingness to take the exam.
But, a few days after the Ligurian students returned to class, the problems remain many. In La Spezia, Giorgia Vallone of the CGIL, underlines that the first criticality “is the delay in staff by law and in the additional ones provided by the regulations on the Covid emergency”. Not having certain data – she adds – is a problem that impacts both ATA staff and teachers.
