Despite attempts to rescue a friend of David who was present at the scene, the 66-year-old had nothing to do: the man died waiting for rescuers. Instead, the elk was euthanized and the meat donated to the Tillamook County Jail.
The bow and arrow moose hunting season runs from late August through September. Authorities advise caution because the period coincides with the moose love season and the males are particularly aggressive and combative in the hopes of attracting potential mates.
