(ANSA) – ROME, AUGUST 31 – The current Lebanese ambassador to Germany, Mustapha Adib, has been tasked with forming the new government in Beirut. This was announced by the Lebanese presidency. Adib, 48, upon accepting the position, promised to form “in a short time” a team of “experts” with a “reform” mission. His name is the one that received the highest number of consents during the consultations of the Head of State Michel Aoun.
The ambassador’s appointment comes a few hours after the return to Lebanon of French President Emmanuel Macron, who urged Lebanese leaders to form as soon as possible a “government of purpose” that would lead the country out of the economic and political crisis, aggravated by the devastating explosion in the port of Beirut on August 4.
