India, first country in the world in speed of contagion

India now has the fastest growing number of coronavirus cases of any country in the world – more than 75,000 new infections per day. Crowded cities, ignored isolation rules, and a lack of contact tracing have spread Covid 19 to every corner of this country of 1.3 billion people. “Everything that is happening right now heralds a huge increase in workload in the coming days,” said Dr. Anant bhan Alabama New York Times, a health researcher at Melaka Manipal Medical College in South India. “The most worrying thing is that we are approaching the number one in the world.” During the rigorous lockdown from late March to late May, the majority of Covid cases in India were concentrated in urban areas, Dr. Bhan said. But when restrictions were loosened, many people began to move from cities to rural areas, taking the virus with them.
