Viterbo – Violent whirlwind north of Viterbo.
The phenomenon occurred after lunch time between Verentana and Teverina.
Much damage has been done. Along northern Cassia, one of the hardest hit areas, a high-voltage tower collapsed to the ground. This is probably the cause of the blackout that occurred at the same time both in Viterbo and in other municipalities in the province.
Some warehouses were completely destroyed and parts of sheet metal, which cover the roof of the structures, blew out into the street.
The roofs of houses where people were forced to evacuate their homes have also been damaged.
Severe damage also along the Rinaldone road. “An event clearly greater than a whirlwind – says a local resident – has devastated civilian homes in the Rinaldone area, causing extensive damage. The scenario presented is terrifying. Much fear among the neighbors, only the absence of some families has prevented the worst.
Also in Rinaldone an agricultural trailer overturned. Many animals were injured. A small dog was found and rescued near the railroad. Asl intervened.
In the early afternoon bad weather caused a series of floods near the historic center. Among the most involved areas are via della Palazzina and via Garbini.
Eventually, many trees collapsed both in the countryside and in the city.
