A photographer fromAssociated Press heard three shots then saw the police help a white man wearing a cap with the logo of Patriot Prayer, a far-right group. The police had previously denounced in a tweet some cases of violence between protesters and counter-protesters. The tweet reported that the agents had made some arrests and ordered people to avoid the center. After the shooting, police asked anyone who witnessed or had a video to contact investigators.
Oregon City has been the scene of protests since the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis three months ago. Since then there have been countless episodes of vandalism and clashes.
