Coronavirus in Europe, the contagion increases everywhere. Italy even “better” than the continental average

The virus has been circulating freely in Europe for more than a month. But it goes at different speeds. Italy, UK and Germany, which in August began to exceed a thousand cases a day, travel to it, not very safe but still under control: just over 20 infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the last two weeks, well below the European average for the period was 46 (steadily increasing for 38 days, according to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control).

On the continent, for some, it has accelerated in a much more worrying way. There France since Ferragosto has registered more than 54 thousand cases, that’s 82 new positives for every 100,000 people, five times more than a month ago. On this scale, Croatia has exceeded 80, touching 84 in Romania, the only country where the death rate remains high (3 per 100,000). And then there is Spain – where now Madrid is also looked at with concern – which despite itself won the black jersey of Europe with 96,000 cases in two weeks, that is to say 205 per 100,000 people. So while reciprocal lists of countries to avoid, or for which a tampon or quarantine is required at the time of return, someone has already closed its borders: this week Hungary and Ukraine they announced, first and only for the moment, the entry ban for foreigners from the beginning of September.

No one had made it that far after reopening in the early summer, backed by declining numbers and the need to revive the economy (with tourism leading the way). Greece will ban flights to and from Catalonia on Monday; Berlin, which previously only required proof of return, urged him to stop traveling to high-risk areas (including much of Spain and several areas of France, such as Paris and the French Riviera), threatening an economic disincentive for citizens. : Whoever has to remain in quarantine and cannot work will not have any compensation.and you will have to wait at least 5 days to get tested.

The clear message: better not cross borders. But what are the dangers we are not going in any particular order. Like many others, Italy asks those returning from Spain, Malta (110 cases per 100,000) and Croatia for a swab, but not yet those coming from France, which has almost three times the incidence of infections in Greece (29 ) to which, instead, we impose the quarantine. Nearly Covid-free Norway has even added Germany to its blacklist and it will introduce quarantines for anyone who comes from a country that has more than 20 cases per 100,000 inhabitants: practically all of Europe. Sweden (28.9 cases out of 100 thousand), on the other hand, is still going against the tide: it has withdrawn the invitation not to go to Romania, Bulgaria and the Netherlands, but maintains that of the United Kingdom. Which, however, has fewer cases than her.
