Years go by, governments change but, again this year, a few days after the restart in the presence of the school, many chairs, especially in the northern regions, will remain empty, waiting for the alternates. Following the announcement by the Minister of Economy, Roberto Gualtieri, that he had ratified the decree for the hiring of permanent teachers in more than 80 thousand seats (84,808, to be exact, to which we must add 11,323 units of technical-administrative personnel); The first estimates, from union sources, on how many of these entries in the position will actually be made (with the signature, that is, of permanent contracts) act as a “counterweight”.
The numbers according to the forecasts
Of the 84,808 chairs offered at stake, they will be covered in the coming days about 25 thousand, just under 30%, basically all the acronyms coincide; could rise to 30 thousand, 35%, due to the increase in the quota of possible appointments of some competition rankings and pending the “quick call”, sought by the Minister of Education, Lucía Azzolina, which has just left, and which will allow that temporary workers who want to conquer the role move from their region. In short, two out of three hires are likely to remain virtual.
Precarious towards 200 thousand units
The official numbers will come out in September, but it is already rumored that in Lombardy in less than 20 thousand authorized hires they will be able to make about 5-6 thousand. And the situation is not better in other northern regions, Piedmont, Veneto, Emilia Romagna. Starting in Rome, and starting in primary school, you can’t find mathematics teachers, generally of technical-scientific subjects; but also Italian, foreign languages, mainly English.
“Even in the South some competition classes like literature and mathematics are exhausted,” said Gianluigi Dotti, director of the Gilda Study Center. The consequence is that substitutes will increase, so that approximately one in four teachers this year could be precarious.
Always according to unofficial estimates, in fact, precarious teachers, in September, will attest to 200 thousand units (250,000 with the new temporary chairs announced by Azzolina), out of a total staff of around 800,000 teachers. A separate discussion, support, where the emergency is very high: between 80 and 90% of the chairs in recent years are empty, and many times they are assigned to a non-specialized teacher. The thousands of free chairs, to the sound of the first bell, are, unfortunately, a phenomenon that is repeated.
