Twenty years after its closure, the Marabù nightclub will once again become a place of music and entertainment.
The opening of the restaurant dates back to October 1977, with its large luminous handwriting as a landmark on Via Emilia. That sign, removed long ago, will be recreated as it is and will stand out again, to mark the new course of the Marabù. It is one of the details of a project that at the moment is half a dream in the drawer.
A return to ancient glories is the goal of Claudio Campani, the entrepreneur in the car dealership sector, who at the beginning of August bought the structure and the large adjoining plaza. In a short time he began the first works. The ongoing intervention consists mainly of remediation. For years this building, which has become a piece of archeology in the entertainment industry, served as a bed for the homeless.
A large amount of waste, mattresses, rags are removed and collected with mini excavators, they are removed along with old posters and posters with portraits of the last groups and singers who have performed on stage. Even the outer parts covered in vegetation, as well as the garbage, have been cleaned.
Preliminary works include the installation of a new fence, public lighting and an alarm system, in order to avoid occupation by strangers. Once everything is secured, the renovation could begin next spring. Much will also depend on the evolution of the coronavirus epidemic, as well as the opportunities that the municipal administration will be able to grant at the urban level. In addition to a nightclub, whose formula has yet to be innovative, the building will be used to house commercial spaces.
