The place was known to all the Orvieto boys for the “shooting challenge”. The counter was always stocked with shot glasses lined up of small, high-alcohol cocktails to gulp down one gulp after another. A popular pastime, even among those under the “cliff.”
Until the arrival of the Orvieto police, who followed the movement of a fifteen-year-old girl from the area who, being carried away by the wave of her companions, entered the local footprint known among young people for consuming alcohol. The manager, in fact, certainly did not look at the personal data of the boys who challenged each other between the cocktail glasses, thus violating the law that, as we know, does not allow the administration of alcohol to minors.
Everything under control, until the fifteen-year-old girl begins a challenge with her friends (who are also sixteen years old) that leads her, within minutes, to collapse to the ground due to an illness. The flight team from the Orvieto police station and the 118 health workers went to the scene on time, a few days later the girl’s parents denounced that she officially unleashed the investigation.
The testimonies collected confirm the words subsequently spoken by the fifteen-year-old and outline a fairly clear picture of the practice, on the part of the restaurant manager, of selling alcoholic substances to minors. A hypothesis that found confirmation thanks to the identification of another girl who confirmed what the researchers suspected.
Parents accompanying the children involved in various ways in these episodes were also called to the police station and some of them, probably unconscious, were shocked by their children’s stories about what happened on the night of Orvieto.
The nightlife of the boys based on “shots”
The testimonies collected by the police investigators as a result of the last episodes give a worrying idea of the “passage of time” of some Orvieto boys, even minors. Alcohol consumption appears to be a growing phenomenon in the nightlife of young cliff dwellers, in particular the consumption of “shots” sold at low prices in order to attract even the smallest both to socialize and to start “get high”.
