Carlo Bonomi is the designated president at the Confindustria summit for the 2020-2024 term with 123 preferences. It is the result of the telematic vote (due to the Covid-19 emergency) of the general council in which the 183 eligible parties participated. The final election for Vincenzo Boccia’s successor will take place during the private meeting of industrialists on May 20.
Competition
Bonomi, president of Assolombarda, given the leadership the day before, prevailed over the vice president of internationalization, Licia Mattioli, who obtained 60 votes. Since the beginning of March, the competition had been reduced to a race for two after the step back of the Brescia industrialist Giuseppe Pasini. Subsequently, the Confindustria designation commission, the so-called “wise men” (Andrea Tomat, Andrea Bolla and Maria Carmela Colaiacovo), in their report certified the advantage of Bonomi, strong of “a consensus superior to the absolute majority” both in the votes in general council for the designation of votes in the assembly for the subsequent election.

However, Mattioli had decided to continue the competition, trusting the possibility of recovering the consensus, which in the end was not there. There were 60 votes.

The general council meeting took place remotely and in the presence, at the Viale Astronomy headquarters, of outgoing President Vincenzo Boccia, of director Marcella Panucci and of the two candidates. The appointment must have the approval of the assembly of delegates convened on May 20 that will elect the 31st president of Confindustria.

The biography
Since June 2017, Bonomi has been president of Assolombarda, the association of companies that operate in the metropolitan city of Milan and in the provinces of Lodi, Monza and Brianza. He was born in Crema on August 2, 1966. He is an entrepreneur in the biomedical sector, president of Synopo and of the controlled manufacturing companies, Sidam and BTC Medical Europe. He reaches the top of Confindustria after having played several roles in the association: in the same Assolombarda he was vice president with responsibility for credit, taxes, finances, organization. Previously, he had been vice president of the Assolombarda and Confindustria Lombardia Youth Group. He leads the technical group for the tax department in the Vincenzo Boccia team. Since July 2019 he is also President of the Assolombarda Foundation.
