You get to 7 months waiting for an MRI, 9 for an echocardiogram or ultrasound, while you can also wait a year for visits to specialists (rheumatology, gynecology for example). For children, making an appointment with the pediatrician becomes an obstacle course even if it is a cancer screening test. The harsh complaint comes from a file from Uil Lazio who monitored the progress of the visits and interviewed general practitioners and other professionals. The image that emerges is alarming and describes a service focused mainly on patients with COVID-19, while the other pathologies, including cancer, would not be treated as they should. Therefore, huge problems of prevention and diagnosis. According to the report more than 50% fewer visits to specialists and of the growing concern of physicians about “the worsening of many pathologies whose effects, they say, will be seen in the coming years. Just think of heart disease and diseases of the cardiovascular system in general.
Covid, the elderly isolate themselves: the fear of dying alone
In the last week the visits of specialists “fell by 10% according to the data of the Region – says the secretary general of Uil de Lazio, Alberto Cívica – data, however, extremely fragmentary and no longer comparable because they stop at the last five weeks and do not record a history. ” Civica collects in the dossier the statements of some pediatricians in particular, according to which the mental health care of the little ones is omitted, at such a critical moment. «And instead – say the pediatricians according to Civica – precisely in this period there would be greater need, assistance is needed because covid is creating a lot of problems for teens and they must be followed more than before. Problems also to «reserve one visit control or test of learning difficulties, attention disorder, memory difficulties ”. The union thinks: It is clear that the months of waiting for specialist visits push users to resort to intramural examinations, therefore, for a fee. This is the only way to reduce the wait to one week for an MRI, or five days for an echocardiogram.
No more scheduled hospitalizations, just urgent interventions. This is how “Goretti” returns to the Covid hospital
Lazio, more than a thousand infections: “Now home visits to free hospitals”
Difficulties, according to the union, start when you try call Copa (the switchboard) to book the visit: the line is always busy. It turns out then that “the urgency indicated in the medical prescription of letter B seems useless, which should guarantee its fulfillment in ten days. But, says the union, the operator’s response is always the same: “Sorry, the list for B is completely sold out.” and the times are still as indicated. There are also reported problems with tampons that GPs should start making. According to Uil, the clinics do not respect the measures to avoid contagion (there is no double access for example).
Covid, former patients have shortness of breath and perennial fatigue: clinics now open only for “veterans”
Not only that: the commitment to tampons would subtract the work of general practitioners in favor of non-Covid patients. Strong criticism also of the costs of the serological test in “private laboratories, included among other things in the list of structures authorized by the Region, where it has gone from 35 euros in May to 60 today.” There would also be problems on how to access the hospitals: «To access Umberto I, all you have to do is measure the temperature if you go on foot, while the green light if you go through the gate. Situation analogous to San Camillo-Forlanini. At Santo Spirito they direct you to the checkpoint, which, however, is already inside the hospital. Finally, according to Civica, “giving the possibility, especially to consultants who are currently half-empty, to perform swabs or rapid tests for covid could be a good solution” to reduce queues to drive-ins.
