There are 812 new cases of Covid-19 registered in Tuscany since yesterday and communicated with the usual daily bulletin that photographs the progress of the epidemic in the region. The new cases mark +3.4 percent: 407 refer to the Central ASL, 228 to the Northwest and 177 to the Southeast. There are two deaths: male and female, mean age 86.5 years, Florence and Livorno provinces.

The data is updated at noon, communicated on the basis of requests from the National Civil Protection and disseminated by the Tuscany Region. With 7,359 people tested (excluding control swabs) and 11,351 swabs performed (939,153 since the emergency began in February) it means that in the last twenty-four hours 11 percent of the tests gave a positive result, which is a percentage a little lower than yesterday.

People who are currently affected by the virus amount to 11,546, plus 6.4 percent. Of these, however, only 547 are hospitalized (36 more) and of them only 72 are in intensive care (ten more in the last twenty-four hours). The vast majority -10,999- are at home or in health hotels, because they are asymptomatic or in any case in conditions that do not require special hospital care. Those cured also grew (by 1 percent) and reached 11,846: 48.2 percent of all positive cases verified in nine months since the start of the pandemic in Tuscany, or 24,600.

Of the 812 positives today, 598 were identified in the course of follow-up, for investigations initiated after other positive cases, while 214 were discovered through screening activities. The average age is about 41 years: 20% are under 20, 27% between 20 and 39, 33% between 40 and 59, 15% between 60 and 79, and 5% are 80 or older. Of the 24,600 cases verified since February 7,110, according to the residence or domicile of the patients, they refer to the Florence metropolitan area (243 more than yesterday), 1,643 Prato (63 more), 1,778 Pistoia (101 more), 1,971 Massa Carrara (48 more), 2,679 Lucca (30 more), 3,190 Pisa (108 more), 1,281 Livorno (42 more), 2,303 Arezzo (88 more), 1,249 Siena (56 more) and 846 Grosseto (33 more). The positive cases reported in Tuscany, but involving residents in other regions, were 550.

Tuscany rises to ninth place in Italy – until yesterday it was tenth – in terms of the number of cases (including residents and non-residents), with about 660 confirmed patients per 100,000 inhabitants. The Italian average. as of yesterday it is around 702 per 100 thousand. The notification provinces with the highest rate are Massa Carrara with 1,011 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, Pisa with 761 and Florence with 703, while the lowest is confirmed Grosseto with 382.

Hospitalization, healing, isolation

People isolated at home, because they have mild symptoms that do not require hospital treatment or because they do not have symptoms, are 659 more than yesterday, 6.4 percent more. In total there are 10,999. Another 18,175 Tuscans (1,343 more than yesterday, plus 8%) are also isolated at home, under active surveillance because they have had contact with infected people (Asl Centro 7,095, Northwest 6,667, Southeast 4,413).

The number of people hospitalized in beds dedicated to Covid patients rises globally to 547 (36 more than yesterday, plus 7%) and of these 72 are in intensive care (10 more than yesterday, plus 16.1%).

Those cured reached 11,846 (115 more than yesterday, plus 1%): 11,350 (increased by 117 units, plus 1%) are in all respects – these are the so-called viral recoveries verified with double negative buffer – while for 496 recovery is only clinical, that is, they became asymptomatic after presenting manifestations associated with the infection. This is a phase that usually precedes the other and therefore in today’s statistics there are two fewer (-0.4%) than the previous day.

The new deaths

With the last two deaths, deaths since the beginning of the epidemic amount to 1,208: 441 in Florence, 54 in Prato, 86 in Pistoia, 184 in Massa Carrara, 149 in Lucca, 100 in Pisa, 66 in Livorno, 57 in Arezzo , 33 in Siena and 26 in Grosseto. Twelve people died on Tuscan soil but resided elsewhere.

Tuscany’s crude death rate (number of deaths / resident population) for Covid-19 is currently 32.4 per 100,000 inhabitants against 60.7 per 100,000 for the Italian average. Tuscany is eleventh. Regarding the provinces, the highest mortality rate is found in Massa Carrara (94.4 per 100 thousand), Florence (43.6 per 100 thousand) and Lucca (38.4 per 100 thousand). The lowest is in Grosseto (11.7 per 100,000).
