The blackest day: never so many deaths in 24 hours not even in the first wave (although at that time, thanks to the blockade, the virus was limited). There are 993 Covid deaths throughout Italy: of these 347 only in Lombardy (equivalent to about 35%), while in Brescia the sad picture is updated with another 17 victims. The deceased also included a 49-year-old woman, then men and women between 79 and 100 years old. The victims lived in Salò (4), Brescia (3), Gavardo (2), Agnosine, Bagnolo Mella, Comezzano Cizzago, Passirano, Puegnago and Rezzato.
Still many, too many deaths
But why so many? Difficult to explain if several factors are not taken into account. Including delays in communication: even the deaths in Brescia, in reality, do not refer to a single day but to an update of the last days (during the weekend they are not counted, and on Tuesday there were only three). But in Italy mortality is the same among the highest in Europe (and the world): due to the very advanced average age, due to the situation (and saturation) of the hospitals.
People die (a lot, too much) also in Lombardy, no longer in Brescia and Bergamo (as in March and April) but in Milan, Como, Monza and Varese. In some countries, cemeteries are full and funerals and burials have been postponed for up to two months. And like the first wave, overly elderly patients are no longer hospitalized. Beyond the darkness of the deaths, the good news is that the epidemic curve continues to decline.
The situation in Lombardy
There are 3,751 new positives in Lombardy, compared to 36,271 swabs processed (slightly lower) for a percentage of 10.3%, in line with the average of the last days. At the hospital the balance is more than 200 fewer hospitalized, which means that even between Wednesday and Thursday there were more exits than admissions: to date, however, there are 7,861 Covid patients in Lombard hospitals, of which 836 (10, 63%) in serious condition in intensive care.
