Someone was arrested at the corner of via Domenico Scarlatti and via Benedetto Marcello, physically blocked against the shutter of a closed shop, after a long chase that started from the regional building. Someone else was caught in the subway, trying to escape pretending not to know anything about the slaughterhouse on the corner. Still, someone else was taken to the streets after the group disbanded, disintegrated but ready to reform.
For now, 28 people have been denounced by the police after the long night of Monday in Milan, a city that has had to deal with the protests – and the anger – of some 200 people who took to the streets to say no to the restrictions imposed. of the new anti-coronavirus Dpcm and ended up transforming the demonstration into an urban war.

Bombs, Molotov cocktails and firecrackers
The announcement of the “meeting” – a poster with black characters, a tricolor mask and the words “Monday at 8.30 pm Piazzale Loreto, Milan” – was passed through the WhatsApp chats from phone to phone and many responded to the appointment.
At around 8:45 p.m., the procession began to advance down Corso Buenos Aires, with a single police van behind and a clear road ahead. The group threw two Molotov cocktails in via Petrella and via Regina Giovanna, while chants were chanted against the prime minister – “Conte, you’re a son of a p …” – against the police and in favor of freedom. Then, on the march to the region, an extension of barriers, scooters and overturned baskets – also to collect glass bottles from inside to use as weapons – with the rumbling of firecrackers in the background.
In via Fabio Filzi, after an attempted assault on a local patrol, another moment of tension: a tram was attacked with bottles and stones and the driver was forced to flee from the vehicle. Then the snake continued in Porta Nuova – here also stones against the windows of the skyscrapers – and then headed towards the region with conviction.

The battle under the region
There the hottest moment of the night with the police who decided to react despite being less than the “rioters”, who armed themselves with stones, glass bottles, barriers “torn” from the works – one was a stone’s throw away from the town square of Lombardy and New Jersey to improvise barricades. The policemen repelled two or three attacks by the protesters – who divided into two sections and attacked the building with stones and firecrackers – throwing tear gas and trying to advance.
After a few minutes, an official received the order to “go find them” and the policemen moved compactly escorted by an armored vehicle, managing to push the protesters back to the Central Station, where an executive from the Police Headquarters turned out injured after being hit by a glass bottle on the head. Then the second “charge” began with three police vehicles that went out to hunt down the “rioters”, managing to arrest some and disperse others.
The situation calmed down again around 10:40 p.m. after a couple of hours of tension and actual warfare in the city, with protesters dispersing and moving away.

Who was in the square
The activists who took to the streets did not have symbols or party flags. But based on what I learned from Milan Today Among them were exponents of the ultras world – many jackets with the logo of one of the curves of San Siro – and of the social centers of Milan, in a strange mix between far-right militants and anarchists, however both often stayed in the rear guard almost to check and without participating in the hottest phases of the procession, leave it to the others. In fact, it was the “greatest” of Corso Buenos Aires who criticized those who tried to damage the premises and the shop windows, reminding us that “we are not here for that.”
Side by side – and “by eye” indeed seemed to be the most active in guerilla warfare and assaults – many young and very young who charged each other, speaking now in Milanese, now in Arabic. No boss, no guide, no boss, but with so much spontaneous anger and so much devastation.
Who are the accused
Thirteen of the accused are known to be minors. All will have to answer for accusations of harm and violence to a public official, but they were immediately released.

Of those identified and investigated, 18 are Italian and 10 are foreigners, including some North Africans. “An Italian girl of legal age belongs to the anarchist galaxy,” they said from via Fatebenefratelli, “while the rest of the people denounced cannot be traced to known groups.” Even if there were other groups in the square, in that strange union between right and left founded by anger.
