As part of Covid’s emergency business plan, since this morning a new level of alert has been activated due to the particular virulence with the consequent high hospitalization of positive patients at the Riuniti polyclinic in November.
The fifth level It was only foreseen in the event of exceptional epidemic conditions and represents a kind of general mobilization of specialized operational units: since the beginning of the pandemic, two complex specialized structures such as Endocrinology, led by Professor Olga Lamacchia, had already been involved in the reconversion , and Rheumatology, directed by prof. Francesco Paolo Cantatore, transforming its structure into a Covid pavilion, also favored by its location in the Infectious Diseases pavilion.
The fifth level of alert in fact it was activated with the Covid nephrourology department coordinated by the professor Giovanni Stallone, Director of Nephrourology at the UOC. Now it is the turn ofUOC to the Hospital Gastroenterology Directorate.
The Gastroenterology department of the Riuniti Polyclinic in Foggia, led by dr. Rodolfo Sacco, assumes a double role: following the indications of the general management after the study of the epidemiological situation of these intense weeks, a new and alternative has been developed, offered to all gastroenterological activities through a complex organizational framework.
A program that guarantees continuity of care and taking care of patients for whom it is essential to maintain optimal control of pathologies and that at the same time establishes access to services dedicated to patients affected by Covid-19 who need care adequate with dedicated route and staff organization.
In fact, already on November 13, the room has received positive Covid patients in charge of the Emergency Service, in which the UOC of prof. Sergio Locaputo, an integrated team of nurses and oss from the UOC of Gastroenterology and Emergency Service and the support of organizational positions in the medical area.
In essence, outpatient visits and endoscopic procedures will continue to be usable as a normal ward activity for non-Covid patients without interrupting routine activities, but the healthcare offering has been reshaped in light of the significant concentration. of patients with coronavirus through the transformation of hospitalization into a fully Covid operating unit using the following form: 16 seats Covid dalle, dedicated medical staff comprised of 10 medical executives already belonging to the UOC of Gastroenterology and 6 newly hired medical executives, strengthened the nursing staff reaching a complete regimen 23 pieces, enhanced oss staff comprised of 10 units of which three are in service at the UOC of Gastroenterology, six are newly hired and five in the Emergency Department. Another 2 units will join for a total of sixteen.
All the resources and efforts launched by the Riuniti Polyclinic go in one direction: treating patients with chronic gastroenterological diseases and not with Covid-19 with all the precautions prescribed by manual cases without the dual role of the gastroenterology department compromising the standard of care that the entire team has always provided.
Adding a Covid area with a department in full ordinary activity never blocked in all these pandemic months with a separate path to guarantee security services is a complex and articulated operation – explains the general director of the Riuniti Polyclinic Vitangelo Dattoli – but that has its reasons in the desire of the strategic direction of the polyclinic to change the face of the hospital company to respond to the health emergency with the maximum possible security: Covid and non-Covid patients will continue to have healthcare as well as everyone health professionals who are available every day with their professionalism “
