am 11,641 new cases of coronavirus in Italy (yesterday it was +13,442, here the newsletter). Come out so at least 2,636,738 the number of people who have contracted the SARS-CoV-2 virus (including those recovered and killed) since the outbreak began. THE deaths today am 270 (yesterday it was +385), for a total of 91,273 victims as of February 2020. While people recovered or discharged am 2,118,441 overall (more than 2 million as of January 31): 11,380 those who came out of the Covid nightmare today (yesterday +15,138). I KNOW positive current – subjects who have the virus – happen to be in everything 427,024, equal to -10 compared to yesterday (-2,084 the day before). There decrease in current positives – with the minus sign in front – generated by the fact that the cured, added to the deaths, are in greater number than in the new cases. This decline has occurred continuously since January 25.
I total swabs (molecular and antigenic) were 206,789, or 75,618 less than yesterday when they were 282,407. While the positivity rate 5.6% (the approximation of 5.62%): means that of every 100 swabs performed, more than 5 were positive; yesterday it was 4.8%.
As of January 15, this percentage of cases / swabs, calculated also counting rapid tests, is therefore lower than that of the bulletins prior to January 15 and it is not possible to make comparisons with the history. Here is the map of contagion in Italy.
Fewer infections in 24 hours than yesterday, compared to fewer swabs, with the positivity rate increasing to 5.6% (always increasing with fewer tests) from 4.8% yesterday. Today begins the weekend effect, that is, the decrease in new infections due to fewer processed analyzes – today those on Saturday are reported – which lasts until Monday included. This trend of the downward curve occurs, therefore, every weekend and is not very indicative of the evolution of the scenario. There will be more indications starting Tuesday, thanks to the increase in tampons. From the comparison with the last two Sundays – January 31 +11,252 cases with a rate of 5.3% and January 24 +11,629 cases with a rate of 5.6% – we understand that the situation does not change much.
The most affected region is the Campania (+1,741) – never happened -, followed by over a thousand new cases by the Lombardy (+1,515) and fromEmilia romagna (+1,382). All other regions have a two or three digit increment except the Valle d’Aostra that marks only one new infected.
The victims
The death toll decreases in 24 hours. Warning: the reduction may be due to the fact that the data is sometimes incomplete on weekends. We do not know. This is a hypothesis, as there is no information about it. The deaths, however, are less than 300 for the third time in 2021, see 237 deaths on Sunday, January 31 and 299 on Sunday, January 24. It is immediately apparent that the other two trough deaths, below the 300 threshold, were also recorded on Sunday.
The health system
Pressure relief on hospitals continues. Occupied beds in the ordinary rooms of Covid am -142 (yesterday -167), for a total of 19,266 hospitalized, less than 20,000 hospitalized since February 4, as in early November. THE beds occupied in intensive care (ICU) am -3 (yesterday -32), bringing the total of more seriously ill a 2,107. The variation in the number of occupied beds, in critical and non-critical areas, indicates the balance between patients who left and those who entered in the last 24 hours: it does not mean that there are no new hospitalized patients. Indeed, I new additions to IT am +105 (yesterday +144).
